My name is Anne Bligh, and I came to Ashburton as a child in 1961 when my Mum and Dad, Eve and 'H' Lowell, bought The Paper Shop at 6 North Street. I met local boy Robin at the youth club in Stapledon Lane (yes, I know, it is really Back Lane or even Cad Lane - but the Post Office dictates otherwise). Robin and I later married and have lived in the town ever since.

In 2012 I joined  Ashburton U3A's history and archaeology group, and became enthused about Ashburton in the past. This website is the result.

If only first I knew
That when I'd tumbled out of bed,
There'd be some word from You.'

Postcard sent to Miss Heather Knight at Orley House in the 1920s. There is an Orley Cottage in St Lawrence Lane (which was Station Road) today; an Orley House also appears at the top of East Street (see People and Properties 1900s)
